Russell ’ s drive , spirit of excellence , inquisitive mind , enterprising nature , and leadership , are qualities that exemplify what it means to be a true Lasallian . A confident student with an appetite for excellence , Russell arouses his inner competitive spirit to reach the high standards that he sets for himself . In the classroom , Russell takes ownership of his academic studies . His natural curiosity and dedication towards acquiring in-depth knowledge and understanding across disciplines , stand him apart from his peers .
A skilled sailor , Russell ’ s exceptional achievements in sailing at school , national and international levels attest to his trailblazing nature as an icon for sporting excellence . He attained 1st place in the 2022 and 2023 National School Games International Laser Class Association ( ILCA ) 6 A-Division Boys Individual Category for Sailing and emerged as Champion in the 2022 Singapore National Sailing Championships and the 2023 Singapore National Youth Sailing Championships . In addition , he represented the Singapore Sailing team at the 2022 Allianz Youth Sailing World Championships , the 2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships , and the 2022 Thailand National Championships . In recognition of his stellar achievements in Sailing , he was awarded the Singapore Olympic Foundation — Peter Lim Scholarship ( Under 18 High Performance ) in 2022 and 2023 , the 2022 Singapore Schools Sports Council Best Sportsboy Award , and the 2022 / 2023 SJI Sports Meritorious Award .
Russell also served with distinction as Captain of the SJI Sailing Team , imparting his technical and tactical knowledge to his younger teammates through regular team briefings . In recognition of his academic excellence and stellar co-curricular achievements , Russell received the 2023 Singapore Police Force Book Prize .
Besides Sailing , Russell also harnesses his passion for entrepreneurship , social enterprise and global affairs in service of the school . Russell and his team emerged as Champions at the 2022 Prudential Young Trailblazers Competition for their business proposal “ StudyBuddy ”, an online learning tool that connects like-minded students in the pursuit of academic excellence . Furthermore , together with the SJI Social Enterprise Club – Prism – he organised 2022 Catalyst , a social entrepreneurship conference where invited speakers share valuable industry insights to youths in Singapore . In addition , he was part of the SJI team that emerged as Champions in the 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ) Quiz in 2022 . His organisational , communication and collaboration skills are assets which he leveraged to good effect in his involvement in these events and competitions .
A true embodiment of what it means to be excellencedriven and community-minded , Russell truly is a deserving recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
