Dylan Sim Rui Hern ( ML611 )

A polite and cooperative student who works well in a group Dylan is well-mannered , responsible and hardworking , Dylan is a committed and hardworking student who has a positive mindset . His open-mindedness is also another quality that has contributed to his successes in SJI .
Dylan has always been passionate about serving the school community . During his time in secondary school , he was selected to become the Deputy Head Prefect and a Student Councillor . In these roles he took charge of planning and executing various important school events . He was also a Peer Support Facilitator and sub-committee in-charge for the Year 1 Orientation Camp 2018 . Despite the stresses of coordinating 180 students outside of school , he showed much care for others in his actions and did his best to ensure that everyone was safe throughout the course of the camp . Such experiences showcased his unparalleled leadership , interpersonal and communication skills . At the end of his term , he received a certificate of distinction for his remarkable service as a Councillor and a certificate of distinction as a prefect . Outside of these service CCAs , he was also an active member in the NCC Land uniformed group . By the end of his career in NCC Land he attained the rank of assistant Unit Sergeant Major who was the Overall 2-IC of NCC Land . In this role , he oversaw the weekly training and was in charge of leading the Precision Drill Squad ( PDS ), a competition team , where he had to coordinate performances . Similarly , he was also awarded with the certificate of distinction for his service a testament to his leadership capabilities .
While in the Senior Section , he also took up multiple leadership posts . He was elected to the position of General Secretary and Treasurer in the Student Council EXCO where he had to
do the minutes during meetings , consolidate the number of CAS hours and manage the council ’ s expenses . He was also the overall-in-charge of the Year 5 Orientation Camp where he coordinated the planning and execution of the programme as well as ensuring safety throughout . His contribution and leadership he displayed during the camp were particularly impressive given the Covid-19 circumstances at that time . He often served as a beacon of support for his fellow orientation group leaders whenever they were disheartened by change of plans . He also demonstrated adaptability in his leadership and was able to think on his feet and responded well to changes in the programme in order to make Orientation an enjoyable yet safe experience for the Year 5 participants .
Despite all the setbacks , many students and teachers have regarded the camp a success thanks to his effective leadership . Given his immense efforts to give back to the school , it was no wonder that he was selected as the recipient of the Teo Cheng Guan Student Leader Award in 2020 , given annually to a year 5 student who was from the IP track in recognition of leadership and service to the school . In addition , Dylan was also awarded the Distinguished Lasallian Service award 2020 in view of his exemplary conduct and significant contributions to the SJI community .
Dylan is reliable , organised and conscientious , which is no mean feat for someone who is involved in a variety of activities and responsibilities outside the classroom . He has clearly shown that he is someone who is disciplined and sets high standards for himself . Dylan is indeed an exemplary Josephian and a student leader who is in every way , deserving of this award .
