Dylan , Choo Chi Tao ( MN402 )
Dylan Choo joined SJI in 2017 and he has been a valuable asset to the SJI Football team since day one . He is passionate and dedicated to his craft , demanding high standards for himself and the team . Dylan ’ s commitment to the team is unquestionable and his positive and cheerful demeanor makes him well-liked by his peers . He forms strong relationships easily and always encourages his team to excel and give their best . In his first year in SJI , Dylan played a starring role in helping the team to win 1st place in the 2017 South Zone C Division Football Championship and subsequently , 3rd place in the 2017 National C Division Football Championship . Both these achievements were historic as the C Division Football team had never won any championships since Football was restarted in SJI in 2011 .
With his never-say-die attitude and leadership qualities , Dylan was made Captain of the C Division Football team in 2018 . In his tenure as Captain , Dylan led the team to another 1st place finish in the 2018 South Zone C Division Football Championship , finishing as the team ’ s top scorer in the season , highlighting his growing importance to the team . Winning back to back South Zone C Division titles was unprecedented and Dylan was integral to these achievements , working tireless during training and motivating his teammates throughout the tournament . As a central midfielder , Dylan was the heart and engine of the team and had the ability to time his runs well to finish off the team ’ s attacking moves . With an astute footballing brain , Dylan was able to dictate play and drive his team forward .
On top of his footballing abilities , Dylan ’ s leadership qualities were crucial in getting the best out of his teammates during training and matches .
With his renowned footballing ability and excellent form playing for the school team , it was not long before Dylan was called up to represent Singapore in his age group . In 2019 , Dylan was selected and represented Singapore in the Under-15 AFC Tournament , the Hong Kong Jockey Cup ICC Tournament and the Sultan of Selangor Cup . Dylan flew the SJI flag high as he is the only player in SJI proudly representing his country , juggling academic and school commitments , which was not an easy feat . To date , Dylan is still training with the National team in his age group , highlighting his ability and commitment to country .
In 2019 , Dylan helped his team to the quarter finals of the B Division National Tier 1 Football Championship , again playing an important role in getting the school to that stage of the tournament , competing against the top footballing schools in Singapore .
Dylan ’ s contributions to the SJI Football Team are invaluable . More significantly , Dylan ’ s focus , commitment and humble character endears himself to both his peers and teachers . Dylan embodies the values of a Josephian and carries himself as a positive example to everyone in this community . We are proud to recognize Dylan as the Sportsman of the Year .
