Wei Shynn is far more mature than his age suggests . Beneath that quiet demeanour is one who possesses intelligence and maturity . He has encountered several challenges over the years but he leveraged on them to be better . It is evident he uses his experiences to make others around him better .
Wei Shynn is a compassionate leader , both in thought and deed . He may not be assuming a top post in events such as the ACE Camp but he made others see their own worth in their appointments no matter how minor the position was . As Class Chairman , he played the role of a big brother , a mentor to those in the class committee . He effectively modelled the way .
Mrs Janet Kwok , his Vocal Ensemble CCA mentor , has this to say , “ Among his many qualities , the ones that stand out most about him are his courage , tenacity and determination to overcome challenges . Nothing can stop Wei Shynn once he has put his mind to it . One clear example is how he decided to take music as a subject in school , even though he did not have formal musical training . With only the knowledge he had learnt in the CCA , he diligently studied the subject and taught himself enough to make up for the gaps he had to bridge . Eventually , he became so accomplished that he was appointed the student conductor for the CCA . His spirit of perseverance , giving his best and following through with a task once he has committed to it makes him a commendable young man with much potential to do great things .”
Ms Ivy Or , his Geography Tutor , adds , “ Wei Shynn has a pleasant disposition and is a respectful young man . He is a thoughtful individual who is able to maintain a calm demeanour even under pressure . A self-motivated student with high aspirations , he strives to give his best in his academic pursuits . In the recent Geography coursework , he had demonstrated his creativity
and ingenuity by contributing valuable insights to the project and �ith the collective effort fro� the pair� �anaged to earn a distinction in the coursework .”
Mr . Joseph Edison , his Form Tutor , indicates , “ During ACE Camp , as a Peer Support Facilitator ( PSF ), Wei Shynn impressed me with his communication and leadership skills with his peers and juniors . He never walked away from hard physical work even though he was not in-charge of it . He was always one or two steps ahead when it came to preparing for the next activity in the camp programme . He carried out his tasks without any pomp and pageantry and was always quietly going about encouraging the younger ones along the way . It is hard to see such levels of maturity in a student of his age . He proved to many of us that it is possible to change and only be better each day .”
Ms Rita Roop , his English Tutor , remarks , “ Wei Shynn is a natural leader who often goes out of his way to ensure a conducive environment for the class to study in . He is conscientious and dedicated to do producing good quality work and is keen to continually upgrade and improve . His dedication towards excellence is commendable .”
Ms Kassandra Lim , his Biology and Form Tutor , notes , “ Wei Shynn is an enthusiastic learner with a positive attitude and outlook in the classroom . He sets an example of excellence in behaviour and cooperation . When given a task , he will always exceed your expectations without much instructions needed . He works democratically with peers and listens attentively to the responses of others . He is a conscientious and hardworking student and a valued member of the class . He approaches life and work with a sense of purpose .”
Wei Shynn has come a long way since his earlier years in SJI . He is an example of how a student while facing challenges early on� can only see things positively and �a�e an effort to �or� towards bringing positivity to others . He is without any doubt deserving of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
