Dylan Chew Yi Jie ( MN403 )

A dedicated and highly driven student , Dylan Chew Yi Jie possesses an excellent work ethic and a commitment to serve . He always aims to build positive relationships with people around him and make a difference in their lives . In all his years in SJI , he has always endeavoured to challenge himself and perform better in his academic studies and cocurricular activities .
A member of the National Cadet Corps ( Air ) since 2017 , Dylan rose to the rank of Master Sergeant four years later . In 2018 , he graduated from the Freestyle Drill Course as a Basic Instructor , anchoring the team which participated in numerous competitions . He was also part of the team which took part in the Road Relay Competition which made it to the finals in 2018 .
Mr . Lim Meng Chye , his Year 4 Form Tutor has this to say about him , “ Over the last two years , I have seen Dylan ’ s unwavering dedication to not only his studies but also his passion for CCA , NCC ( Air ). A truly exemplary student !” In 2019 , Dylan was appointed instructor of the Year Two orienteering team which emerged first runner up in the NCC Orienteering Competition . He also took part in the trek to Mount Ophir with the corps in 2018 and was selected as Parade Commander for the 2020 Anniversary Parade . In addition to his duties , he also mentored junior cadets , thereby ensuring a smooth leadership transition in the unit . In recognition of all his efforts and good service , he received the Best Cadet Award in 2020 .
When nominating Dylan for the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award , his Officer-in- Charge of NCC ( Air ), Mr . Firmin Lee had these words to say of him . “ When faced with challenges and difficulties , Dylan exemplifies the spirit of perseverance and resilience , using the challenges to his advantage . His never-say-die mentality has helped him resolve many issues . Even in times when he met with failures , he did not allow them to define him . Instead , he transformed these failures into opportunities for growth , which in turn helped the unit to grow as well . He is a hallmark of a true Lasallian and has certainly left behind a legacy of strong leadership for SJI NCC ( Air ).”
Dylan also coordinated the Values in Action ( VIA ) programme to Marina Barrage where he accompanied senior citizens to watch the Singapore Air-Show . In 2019 , he also participated in the Overseas Community Service to Thailand where he was involved in carrying out renovation work in the campus as well teaching English to the students at the school . Through his involvement in these activities , he displayed empathy and compassion for the less fortunate .
Dylan possesses the strength and courage to pursue the goals he has set for himself . In spite of his achievements over the years in SJI , he remains eager to learn and discover new experiences and pursue new challenges .
