Luke Tan Ern Hwee ( TG620 )
Luke Tan joined SJI ’ s Integrated Programme since 2014 . He is a dynamic and driven individual who shows respect to his peers and teachers . A cheerful and indefatigable young man , he has achieved much in his studies throughout his time at SJI . Notably , he was awarded the Lasallian Distinguished Award in 2017 - a recognition given to deserving graduating Secondary 4 students who have shown exemplary witness to the Lasallian values of faith , service and community .
Academically , Luke has been a consistent performer . His teachers have praised him for being confident , articulate and engaged during lessons . An avid dragon boat rower , Luke was also part of the school team that clinched third place in the 2019 ‘ A ’ division competition . In addition , Luke was conferred the MOE Edusave Character Award the same year . This award is offered to students based on their character , leadership , conduct , learning dispositions and academic performance . Luke has been an extremely active and high profile student councillor . As Head of Welfare in the Executive Committee , he implemented several initiatives that deal directly with student life in the wider SJI community . He supported the night study sessions for his seniors in 2018 , ordering food and coordinating with SJI ’ s Parent Support Group daily . For SJI ’ s Open House , he worked directly with corporate communications and teachers to design posters and promotional material for Creativity , Action , Service ( CAS ) and subject booths . He was also involved in SJI ’ s annual Christmas week where he had to coordinate music events , decorate the Founder ’ s Hall and initiate a gift-giving activity entitled “ Secret Santa ”. Wishing to cement bonds after the 2019 Year 5 Orientation , he was overall-in-charge of the creation of SJI stickers and wristbands - a significant total of 1600 items . This process involved the coordination of design efforts and the printing and sale of the memorabilia . As a Josephian of 6 years , he has a thorough understanding of the school ethos and is inspired to serve SJI . The ultimate expression of his servant leadership was his appointment as Head Prefect in 2017 . Luke modelled for the whole school the SJI student leader all should strive to be - a Josephian of integrity , a Josephian for others . He served with distinction .
Luke has also volunteered for Project Phoenix , a social platform that provides underprivileged students with the opportunity to hone their social skills and build confidence through the art of performance . He has worked with the Yio Chu Kang Youth Executive Committee ( YEC ) to provide participants with more than just a boost in their self-esteem but also a sense of purpose and wonder . Luke has been a valued and effervescent student throughout his six years in SJI . Never prideful nor one to flaunt his achievements , he has blossomed into a highly functioning and dynamic individual who socializes well with his peers .
