Lasallian Distinguished Leadership & Service Award
Loke Fai Jun Jaren ( TG616 )
Loke Fai Jun , Jaren is an intelligent and motivated young man ; enthusiastic and armed with a personal view on a wide spectrum of issues , he adds vibrancy to class discussions with his incisive and considered comments . Jaren is never one who passively accepts received opinions . A keen questioner , nevertheless he is a humble young man who is always open to external criticisms and suggestions to improve himself . Jaren is a consistent worker as evident in his sterling results thorughout his schooling years . He has attained many distinctions in Higher Level Learnings in Y4IP , such as in World And Me ( WAM ) and Academic Discovery Module ( ADM ). WAM is a programme that introduces world challenges to SJI students , where they complete projects aimed at impacting the world around us . ADM is a programme which allows SJI students to personally discover and explore discipline-specific areas . He has also attained first in Physics ( standard level ) in 2018 in his cohort .
Throughout his six years in SJI , Jaren has numerable opportunities to hone his leadership skills . He was an active personnel in National Police Cadets Corps ( NPCC ) during his secondary years . In his senior years , as a student mentor , he disciplined and trained the new leaders of the SJI NPCC unit , helping the unit to become one of the few elite NPCC Units in Singapore to achieve the UOPA Gold Award in 2016 / 17 and 2017 / 18 , the highest award for an NPCC unit . He also led the Values in Action department in NPCC , organising community-centred events such as flag days , house-cleaning , and raising public awareness through initiatives regarding crime-related matters . Additionally , he led an overseas VIA trip to Cambodia for the NPCC Unit , organising events and liaising with foreign organisers to make the trip successful . His CCA teacher found Jaren to be one with exceptional leadership qualities and added that he is a good facilitator who is able to conduct meaningful and reflective debrief sessions with his juniors after an activity . In 2019 , Jaren was recognised for his outstanding contribution to NPCC and was recently nominated for the SJI Teo Cheng Guan Scholarship - a scholarship recognising the leadership qualities he displayed during his six years as a SJI IP student .
As the tutor group ( TG ) representative , Jaren takes a serious view of his responsibility , demonstrating much initiative in managing his duties efficiently and promptly . He is sensitive to the needs of his fellow classmates and is receptive to suggestions made . He is also discerning of diverse opinions and is able to make decisions , often with the consensus of the class . His empathy and willingness to attend to his classmates ’ concerns won him their respect and appreciation . Despite his quiet nature , Jaren is able to rise to the occasion and gain the respect and cooperation of the entire class . Such capabilities exemplify his strong leadership potential and his ability to maintain amiable relationships with all . Also , as TG representative , he has been of invaluable assistance to his Class Tutor . He is an effective and a reliable communications channel between the tutor and the class and was highly appreciated as an excellent administrator as well . Jaren was also elected by other class leaders to head the first Class Leaders Executive Committee . Being the head of the pioneering batch of the class Leaders ’ Executive Committee , Jaren had many opportunities to work with various stakeholders in organising events such as University Guidance Sessions as well as a level-wide values-in-action event .
In recognition of his outstanding service to building the school community and for his able leadership , the school conferred on Jaren the Distinguished Lasallian Leadership and Service Award in 2019 .
On a personal note , Jaren is an approachable , sociable and respectful young man who gets along extremely well with his peers and tutors . His pleasant personality and jovial nature has won him many lasting friendships . Jaren has the perseverance to achieve his goals and the potential to excel in his endeavours . His confidence , coupled with his ability to lead , will enable Jaren to be of great contribution to any organization and institution .
