SJIMUN is a Model United Nations conference held yearly and is organised by of the Society of International and Current Affairs ( SICA ), a student-led CAS with the goal to motivate youths to become active , concerned global citizens , as well as to provide a platform for debate and creative solutions to some of the current global problems .
The theme for this year ’ s SJIMUN ’ s conference is Architects of a Better World . Drawing inspiration from President Truman ’ s opening address when the United Nations officially came into existence , the Secretariat decided on the theme as it perfectly encapsulates the enduring vision of the United Nations . Throughout the course of the conference , the delegates worked together to find creative solutions to world problems with the aim of building a better world . We also wanted the theme to inspire delegates to take real actions in their everyday life with regards to global affairs that they are passionate about .
Held from 8-10 November 2019 , the opening ceremony was graced by our guest speaker , Dr Navin Rajagopal ( Director Academic Affairs , Senior Lecturer Global Affairs , Yale-Nus College ), who gave an insightful lecture on the Challenges to Multilateralism in an increasingly polarised world , followed by an engaging Question & Answer session .

With more than 200 participants from over 14 schools , students immersed themselves in fruitful debates over issues such as an intellectual property , genetically modified organisms , economic integration , security cooperation , nuclear disarmament , the use of force against non-state actors and the Rohingya and the Iranian Crisis .
It was an intensely stimulating and enriching experience for the student organisers and participants of this year ’ s SJIMUN . We look forward to using the experience and lessons learned this year for next year ’ s event .
