Nigel Sim Jun Yi

Having received a Lasallian education for 10 years , Nigel Sim Jun Yi has imbibed the core Lasallian values of Faith , Service and Community . With his personable nature and genuine compassion , he is ever-willing to take the initiative to offer assistance to others in need . Using his innate leadership abilities , Nigel has galvanised fellow Josephians to make a difference to the SJI community .
In the growth and development of his servant-leadership , Nigel has served as Class Chairman , Prefect , Peer Support Leader and Councillor . His form tutor , Mr Mok Hsu Pan , shares that “ Nigel is an exemplary leader who uses his gifts to serve the school and the community . Caring and helpful , he always provides a helping hand to his peers and he enjoys collaborative learning with them . Open to the opinions of others , he constantly aspires to make improvements to systems , boosting other people ’ s welfare in the process . Nigel can always be entrusted with responsibilities as he is a principled person who approaches his commitments with initiative , professionalism and a strong sense of purpose and meaning .”
In his role as the 2IC of Peer Support ( Orientation Camp ), Nigel forged a strong sense of brotherhood and rapport among the Year One Josephians . He has also served as a member of the Organising Team of the Lasallian Leadership Training Camp , working collaboratively with his peers to guide the future batches of student leaders . As a member of the Student Council , he was actively involved in the planning and execution of numerous school events such as Mahalo : SJI Carnival 2018 , where he displayed his love and dedication for the school .“
Nigel places community service close to his heart , having participated and organised several “ Values in Action ” Projects . He was in charge of organising the overseas service learning trip to Bamboo School in Thailand . In addition , he volunteered to organise ‘ Project Ethereal ’ for a Citi-YMCA Youth-for-Causes Programme where team members sold stickers , badges and conducted street sales to raise funds for the Singapore Children ’ s Society . He embodies the very notion of what it means to be Lasallian , making him a well-deserved recipient of the award .
As Captain of Canoeing in Secondary 2 and 3 , Nigel played a vital role in bringing the team to several championships . He motivated his team by preserving the long-standing history of clinching the Gold Medal . Despite Nigel ’ s numerous responsibilities , he sets high academic targets and constantly demands the best from himself . An intellectually competent and self-directed learner , he grasps complex concepts with relative ease and was always ranked among the top achievers in his class . In 2016 , he was awarded the A * STAR Science Scholarship for his excellent performance in Science . Besides that , Nigel has consistently excelled in Humanities by emerging First in Geography in the cohort in 2015 and Second in Combined Humanities in 2017 . In recognition of his stellar results , Nigel was awarded the Edusave Scholarship for Independent Schools .
