It is the established tradition in SJI to present the Senior Josephian of the Year Award to a graduating Year 4 student who has displayed all round ability , outstanding leadership and best exemplifies our core Lasallian values of Faith , Service and Community .
Boon Kiat surmounted personal challenges to not only become a respected Head Prefect but also the President of the Student Council in 2018 . In spite of a heavy workload , Boon Kiat ’ s strong sense of passion and service propelled him to serve in numerous other roles , such as a Secretary of Legion of Mary ( Arc of Covenant ), Peer Support Facilitator and Senior Patrol Leader in Scouts .
As a servant leader , Boon Kiat believes in putting others before self . He has worked towards the ideals espoused by the school , as a person of integrity and a person for others . He shouldered various responsibilities with pride and humility , contributing to the school through various projects such as Mahalo : SJI Carnival 2018 and the World Cup Screening .
Academically , Boon Kiat demonstrates a keen attitude towards learning and takes great pride in consistently producing quality work . These traits enabled him to clinch a string of academic awards such as the prestigious A * Star Science Award , the Goh Sin Tub Literary Award ( Gold ) and the Edusave ( Independent Schools ) Yearly Award . As Mr Mok Hsu Pan , his English Language teacher notes , ‘ Boon Kiat is an excellent and steady role-model to his peers . Extremely motivated and committed to excellence , he puts in hard work in all his learning and assignments .’

The Senior Josephian of the Year is the highest award given by the school together with the Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam trophy . In recognition of his character , work and service , the Lasallian community at SJI proudly confers the Senior Josephian of the Year Award to Matthew Koh Boon Kiat .
Most importantly , Boon Kiat respects and shows the ability to empathise with others . These , coupled with the dedication and contribution to the wider school community , won him the Lasallian Student Award and Teo Cheng Guan Student Leader Award in 2016 and 2018 respectively .
Fully committed in his Co-Curricular Activity - Scouts , Boon Kiat is driven by the love for his CCA to achieve personal and group excellence . He attained the First Class Standard in 2018 and played an instrumental role in achieving the National Patrol Camp Silver Award in 2017 . As Senior Patrol Leader , he worked relentlessly and led his peers in the planning and execution of Inter-School Events , such as Euphoria Campfire 2018 and International Events , such as the Lasallian Scout Camp ( 2017 ).
