SJI Community Day with Rainbow Centre

10 OCTOBER 2016

On 10 October 2016 , Josephians brought a new meaning to two of our core values , ‘ Service ’ and ‘ Community ’. SJI Community Day was coined to signify our ongoing outreach to marginalized communities in society .

Since last year , the SJI footballers from the secondary school section have been working with Rainbow Centre , a non-profit organization that serves children and young people with intellectual and physical disabilities . The aim was to expose the children to a day of fun and games through football . This year , there were some fundamental changes to an already-meaningful event . A few dedicated JC1 students , as well as some secondary school CCA leaders , were invited to set up mini arts and games stalls that catered to the children from Rainbow Centre . From facepainting to ball-throwing to tree-building , the smiles on their faces after each child participated in three activities packed in under an hour was truly a heartwarming feeling .
With the help of the SJI Football team as well as the entire JC1 cohort who willingly helmed this event as their collective service project , this event bore much fruit after four months of planning and tireless work . We hope the children from the Rainbow Centre had as much fun as we did , and that SJI Community Day will remain rooted in tradition for years to come !
