All Secondary 3 students ( O-Level Programme ) had the opportunity to participate in overseas trips scheduled during the 2nd week of the June and November holidays respectively this year . These trips were customised to fulfil SJI ’ s core values :
• Faith : Mission Trips
• Service : Values in Action / Service Learning Trips
• Community : School and Cultural Immersion Programme
Students had a choice of 11 trips to select from in 2016 . They were :
IE ( Faith Trip ) SJI partnered with overseas Catholic organisations to render our services to the community . This year saw the students going to Kuya Centre for Street Children in Manila , Philippines ; Jamie Hilario Integrated School in Bagaac , Philippines ; and Marist Centre for Migrant Children in Samut Sakhon , Thailand .
IE ( Service Trip ) This component required the students to do service work for the overseas communities . The activities ranged from interacting with orphans , teaching English and Mathematics to the local primary school students and working on some refurbishing work for the school or organisation which the school had established contact with . The students worked on various projects in Thailand ( Chiang Mai ) and Vietnam ( Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh and Dalat ).
IE ( Community Trip ) These trips provided students with the opportunity to interact with locals through immersion and cultural programmes . The students went to schools such as LaSalle HK , St Joseph ’ s College and Taipei Municipal Hongdao Junior High School to learn about their curriculum , student leadership programmes and cultural practices . The students visited Taipei ( Taiwan ), Hong Kong , Shanghai and Xiamen ( China ).
Through these customised overseas programmes , SJI aims to enrich the students ’ learning experiences so that they will have a better understanding of themselves and of the world .
