JOSEPHIAN ANNUAL 2016 • PRINCIPAL ’ S MESSAGE
Principal ’ s Message
This past year I have found myself marveling at the new buildings rising up at our Malcolm Road campus each time the bus I am on passes by it . In particular , I am struck by the two new classroom blocks that rise high above the existing buildings . They express the hope that our redevelopment efforts promise : an upgraded SJI that will be a school standing tall and proud for the quality Catholic , Lasallian education the school has always provided for generations of Josephians , first at Bras Basah Road , and since 1988 at Malcolm Road .
Quality Catholic , Lasallian education – one that is joyful and purposeful . This is what I am thankful our students have received and our teachers have been able to give in SJI in 2016 . Allow me to share with you some highlights of SJI ’ s focus on empowering our students to learn by trying out new things and learning through new ways .
Our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme ( IBDP ) students put up an impressive Science exhibition on the Bishan campus . They sought out the spaces to help them relate their Science lessons to the campus environment . They also went abroad in the Global Education Programme ( GEP ) and immersed themselves in the local environment by interacting with the local people and serving the local communities . They shared their experiences and stories of their GEP trips through a photography exhibition held at the Singapore Botanic Gardens .
Some of our secondary students went to China and Vietnam for their Overseas Residential Programme . They learnt to appreciate different peoples and cultures ; they also learnt to value their families who loved and cared for them , as well as to not take the simple things in life for granted .
