World and Me

World and Me ( WAM ) focuses on the students ’ discovery of their identity through citizenship . There are three main programmes under the umbrella of WAM :

• WAM explicit lessons and service projects : the process of discovery of ‘ SELF ’
• Overseas Residential Programme : discovery of self as global citizens and unique forms of identities in the world
• The Odyssey : A job shadow programme drawing the link between aspiration and the Josephian identity
The explicit lessons were conducted for the Secondary 3 IP students during Semester 2 . During this period , students were engaged in discussion about issues surrounding the theme of ‘ identity ’ and explored the rationale behind gender and racial inequalities . Through this exercise , students were made to understand that though every citizen has rights , the meaning of such ‘ rights ’ is mainly aimed at generic needs and acceptance of society . They also learnt about how two seemingly different forces , namely tradition and globalisation , can affect their mindsets and actions about the issues at hand .
With the knowledge of the impact individuals can have on the society , WAM for the Secondary 4 IP students saw them involved in community projects at the school , country and global level . The students started out with designing and executing service projects aimed at school improvement . This was followed by collaboration with Singapore Central CDC in the Silver Outing projects for the disabled elderly . The programme concluded with global engagement through the Overseas Residential Programme . Through this journey , students were engaged in using their strengths to do good for the world around them , and in turn , become Josephians who are sensitive to the environment and people around them .
The last stage of WAM is the Odyssey programme , where a series of training sessions , facilitated by Junior Achievement Singapore , were organised to expose students to workrelated skills and in the process provide opportunities to explore their career aspirations . They were also encouraged to make full use of their end of year vacation to look for job attachments that will enable them to understand their dream job better so as to make informed educational and career choices later .
