Band Exchanges In preparation for SYF , the band participated in several band exchanges with other schools , including Maris Stella High School , Catholic High School , CHIJ Toa Payoh , Raffles Girls Secondary School and Victoria Junior College . This was a chance , not only to perform with favourable acoustics of a proper concert hall , but also to listen to and learn from the other bands .
Arts Alive Performance The Arts Alive performance is a chance for each of the aesthetics groups to showcase their abilities and a chance for the new Secondary Ones to understand the aspects of each aesthetics groups , before they choose a co-curricular activity to join . The first piece that the band played was an arrangement of the chart-topping song “ Let it Go ” from the award winning Disney film “ Frozen ”. Next were the ensemble pieces , the majestic yet upbeat “ American Riverside Medley ” as the brass ensemble and the fun and jazzy “ Baby Elephant Walk ” from the film “ Hatari ” as woodwind ensemble .
SYF 2015 After months of blood , sweat and tears , the day had finally come . The bandsmen were ready . The noise and chatter of the journey to the concert hall was now replaced by a calm and patient silence . Months of effort would now be shown in a mere 10 minutes . As the band raised their instruments , Mr Darence Leng , the conductor , flashed them one last smile . It was their best performance yet . The set piece , the first movement of “ Singapura Suite ” by Jan van der Roost , was delivered majestically with gusto . Afterwhich , the choice piece , “ Hymn to the Infinite Sky ” by Satoshi Yagisawa , left the audience breathless with its beautifully flowing melodies . The bandsmen poured their heart and soul into each note , and as they played the final cadence together as one , they knew they had shown the audience the spirit of the SJIMB . Some weeks later , the results were out . The band had received a Certificate of Distinction . The bandsmen were overwhelmed by emotion . It had all paid off . The bandsmen had prevailed , for the school , and for the name of SJIMB .
as well as the handing over of command from the Secondary 4 leaders to the Secondary 3 members . After the opening prayer , A parade command roared across the field , calling all contingents to attention before they marched into position as the band played . The discipline of each individual on the field was evident from the synchronised movements of each contingent . Upon the arrival of Colonel Eugene Lam , the Guest-of-Honour , the band played the Olympic Fanfare , followed by the Road of Gokusen as Colonel Lam inspected the contingents . This was followed by the presentation of the awards for the uniformed groups , before our principal , Dr Koh , addressed the parade . The awards of service were presented to the teachers-in-charge of the uniformed groups , who had served for many years . Colonel Lam addressed the parade as well . Now , it was time for the Josephians to recite the Josephian Pledge . The Josephians promised to stand by their morals and beliefs , and live by the school ’ s values of Faith , Service and Community , each word accentuated by their pride for their school and CCA . This was followed by the March Past , where each contingent marched past the audience in perfect formation to the colours of the band . Finally , the leadership of the uniformed groups was passed down from the Secondary 4s

Project Scubillion Every year , the band takes part in an annual community-involvement programme known as Project Scubillion . It is an opportunity for the bandsmen to reach out to those in need and lend a helping hand , serving the last , the lost and the least . This year , the band went to Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen , a place where volunteers come together to prepare meals for those who cannot afford them . The bandsmen prepared the ingredients and helped to clean up the Soup Kitchen . Through this experience , the bandsmen learned how fortunate they are to live such comfortable lives , and the need to reach out and help those less fortunate than them . Once , during a short lunch break , elderly man , who was wearing a neck brace , entered the dining area . As he walked in , he seemed rather sad , but as he began to eat , a small smile emerged on his face . The bandsmen felt the impact of their actions in the community , and it was very rewarding . Project Scubillion offered the bandsmen a new perspective of life , of those less fortunate than themselves . It revealed how trivial their little problems were , and inspired them to help improve the lives of others . It was a truly enriching experience .
Anniversary Parade The Anniversary Parade , an annual showcase of the many uniformed groups and their contingents , the awards that they had won ,
to the Secondary 3s . The band played the National Anthem as the flags were lowered , before the Secondary 4 leaders marched off as the sounds of the bugler ’ s Last Post echoed throughout the field . As the last note resonated within the audience , as well as the cadets , the parade was dismissed . Following the dismissal of the official parade , the band had its own Change of Command , where Drum Major Nicholas Ong led his batch of Secondary 4 leaders in saluting the new band , joined by the Secondary 1 recruits and led by the new Drum Major , Chia Jeng Yee , as they marched past the Secondary 4s .
