As the SJI Fencing Club entered into its 32nd year , we reflected on the memorable moments and years . Through those times , we learnt from our failures and celebrated our achievements . More importantly , we witnessed the formation of the members ’ character and their passion for fencing .
Competition This year at the National Inter-School
Celebrating our winnings at the National Inter-School Fencing Championships .
Fencing Championships , SJI Fencing Club members were given the opportunity to hone their skills . SJI fencers went forth and fought hard against other schools . Victory was celebrated with the attainment of 1st place in the Individual ‘ A ’ Division Epee by Oscar Loh Wei Jie ( JC 2 ) and 3rd place in the ‘ A ’ Division Foil by Christian James Lim Wei Rong ( JC 1 ). In addition , Nicholas Choong Ding Yang ( Secondary 4 ) managed to clinch 3rd place in the Individual ‘ B ’ Division Foil . Overall , the SJI Fencing Club managed to achieve 4th placing in the ‘ A ’ Division and 3rd placing in the ‘ B ’ Division .
Raising Awareness Other than participating in competitions and championships , the SJI Fencing Club also showcased the sport during morning assembly to the entire school . The intention was to familiarize their peers with the sport of fencing . Other than explaining the rules and techniques of the epee , sabre as well as foil , the captains as well as the members also sparred to demonstrate them .

Project Scubilion This year , members of the SJI Fencing Club had the great learning opportunity to collaborate with the Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled . Together with the residents at the Home , the fencers sowed seeds for the hydroponic farming of vegetables such as lettuce and Chinese cabbage . When the vegetables had grown , they harvested the vegetables . After harvesting , they proceeded to sell the vegetables to residents living in Bishan and also to SJI staff members . While a group of fencers and the residents were out from the Home selling the vegetables , the others stayed behind to clean up the hydroponic farming containers to prepare them for the next

cycle of planting . Through this Project Scubilion , we further developed the social consciousness of our fencers by deepening their involvement in service .
