The SJI Canoeing team trained intensively for the past year in preparation for the National Inter-School Canoeing Championships ( NICC ) held at Bedok Reservoir . Despite facing tough competition as well as undesirable weather conditions , the ‘ B ’ Division secured 16 spots out of 18 possible events in the finals and 13 out of 16 for the ‘ C ’ Division . This exceedingly high number of boats in the finals is truly an affirmation that our boys have been working very hard and have displayed a strong desire to excel in the sport .

The ‘ B ’ Division team fought against all odds and put up a commendable fight . In the end , the team attained a 2nd runner-up placing in the ‘ B ’ Division category .

Hard work and determination paid off for the ‘ C ’ Division team . The ‘ C ’ Division canoeists who were competing in the Championships for the first time confidently brought home the Championship title .
Besides taking part in the NICC , the canoeists also took part in the annual National Inter-School Dragonboat Championships and both divisions clinched the 3rd position .

The D Division Canoeists were named Champion at the National Canoeing Championships 2014
The canoeists challenged their limits in stamina and determination when they took part in the National Mid-Distance Canoeing Championships . The canoeists competed not just against their peers but also canoeists up to 20 years old . Though they were against impossible odds , the team performed excellently once again with some of our canoeists coming in 1st !
Apart from participating in numerous competitions , our canoeists also embarked on a partnership with the South Central Community Family Service Centre for Project Scubilion where we gave back to society by helping out at their community kitchen , planting simple crops for consumption and mentoring primary school students at their homework café .
The successes of the Canoeing team can be attributed to the hard work and determination displayed by every team member , coupled with the guidance and undying support from our dedicated Coach , Mr Huang Chun Jian as well as our teachers-in-charge .
The team will continue to work hard at canoeing , pushing its limits and constantly improving its skills . We will also remain confident as we face new challenges along with new heights of performance in the coming year .
