The St Joseph Institution ’ s Saint John Ambulance Brigade was founded in 1956 . Throughout the years , strong friendships and responsible cadets have been forged . One of these individuals is no other than Mr . Lim Keng Leong , a recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew and the Alfred Robert Edis Award , in recognition of his outstanding community service . Over the years , SJAB has upheld its two honored mottos of “ Pro Fide ” and “ Pro Utilitate Hominum ”, which stands for faith and the service of mankind respectively .
Non-Commissioned Officer Course The Non-Commissioned Officer Course ( NCOC ) is held annually for Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 cadets . NCOC is a leadership camp hosted on a zonal level , held along with other schools . Cadets make new friends and friendship is built up throughout the journey of the entire course . Though cadets go through arduous ordeals such as intensive physical training , they learn the importance of teamwork , determination and encouragement through the hardships they face with their peers . They also learn essential life-skills through First-Aid and leadership lectures as well as fun activities such as outdoor field cooking , whereby cadets cook their own meals using a meagre variety of ingredients .

Annual General Inspection
Every year , Secondary 2 students take part in the Annual General Inspection , more commonly known as AGI . Cadets take part in a parade-cum-ceremony , similar to that of SJI ’ s Annual Parade , whereby cadets go through a 30 minute long parade , followed by a march pass . The AGI is an opportunity for cadets to mingle with other cadets from other schools , as well as to maintain a high level of discipline and perseverance within the cadets .
First-Aid Lessons First-Aid is a key element of SJAB . SJAB cadets are given the opportunity to refine their First- Aid skills and learn new ones during weekly lessons and practices . Bandaging , CPR , the Heimlich maneuver and treatment of wounds and burns are only a handful of the many invaluable life skills that are imparted unto the cadets during trainings . As such , SJAB cadets are vigilant and well-prepared to tackle common injuries around the clock .
