Green Club
SJIʼs ethos in relation to environmental protection is guided by Catholic social teachings where men are called upon to protect the planet and all its life forms . In this regard , much has been done to inculcate this attitude in all Josephians .
Since its inception in 2007 , the Green Club has raised the bar higher each year . Our goal eventually , is for all Josephians to be more environmentally conscious , such that the green lifestyle becomes second nature to all of us . Over the years , much has been done to heighten the awareness of everyone in SJI . Each year , apart from routine year-long programmes like recycling procedures and systems , the Green Club also capitalizes on global events like the Earth Day and Earth Hour to raise everybody ’ s environmental consciousness . This year , we have initiated e-waste and mobile phone recycling . On 18
April 2012 , SJI signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU ) with Nokia ( Singapore ) and TES-AMM , a local e-waste recycling company . The MOU commits the partners to support SJI in its e-waste recycling effort . For every mobile phone sent for recycling , our partners will remit USD $ 2 to our Campaign Fund - to be used solely for running environmental activities . To this end , the Club adopted a witty tongue-in-cheek theme to propagate the e-waste recycling message during this year ’ s commemoration of the Earth Week : “ WATT are you waiting for ?”
We believe that anyone can be an agent of change , if they adopt a more positive mindset , and contribute by being “ a part of the solution , and not part of the problem .”
