Highlights of 2012 for St John Ambulance Brigade in SJI
SJI SJAB Annual Training Camp As part of the training in SJAB , an annual training camp was held in March this year . It aimed to help cadets brush up on their discipline and first aid skills at the same time . In this camp , the cadets had to go through many different activities , such as a mock-up Mass Evacuation Drill ( MED ) and cooking of their own meals . While the cadets learnt new skills , their greatest takeaway was probably the long lasting friendships forged amongst them .

Chief Commissioner ’ s award The Chief Commissioner ’ s Badge is the highest award that any cadet can achieve under the Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme ( CPBS ). The cadets had to obtain a minimum of 12 CPBS Badges before they can be awarded the prestigious Chief Commissioner ’ s Badge . This year , we are proud to have groomed 16 Chief Commissioner recipients . This number is a new record achieved by SJAB in SJI .
Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme ( CPBS ) This is a scheme introduced to allow the cadets to learn new skills outside of SJAB which are also useful in their daily lives . Furthermore , cadets can also earn badges after completing a course , which would allow them to be one step closer to achieving their goal of getting the Chief Commissioner ’ s Badge . These activities include map reading skills , testing of Civil Defence knowledge and even National Heritage trail .
Zonal and National Competitions SJAB Zone 3 First Aid aims to assess the cadets ’ ability to handle precarious situations with various casualties and to showcase the different First Aid techniques and skills . Foot Drill is also an important component of the competition .

This year , the Secondary Three cadets were the 3rd runner-up in the Ambulance Cadet ( AC ) category . The Secondary Four cadets were the 1st runner-up in the Ambulance Adult ( AA ) category , 1st in the Transport of Casualty ( TOC ) sections with Senior Staff Sergeant Ng Run Hong being awarded the Best Leader award in the competition .
Although the SJI AC and AA teams were not able to qualify for the National First Aid Competition , they have worked very hard for the competition and would definitely do better next year .
