The incoming season for the SJI Hockey Team was one of change . A new coach , Mr Suketu Khabaria came on board .
National Inter-School Hockey Championships The ‘ B ’ Division Team locked horns with Bukit View once again this year , hoping to seal a comfortable victory once the match had started . However , Bukit View managed to keep SJI at a draw and the match ended with the score level of 1-1 . Matthew Low ( 306 ) opened the scoring right before half-time with a delicate reverse shot that beat the keeper . However , the fiery opponents fought back and through a deflection levelled the scores at 1-1 .
The SJI team prevailed in the next battle against Yio Chu Kang Secondary School ( YCKSS ) which saw an early goal within the first three minutes of the match thunderously struck from Gurveer Singh ( 306 ) past the keeper . The YCKSS players fought back and managed to score a goal with a quick counterattack and the scores were tied 1-1 . In the last few minutes of the game , Rohit Kekre ( 432 ) delivered a fascinating dipping slice shot which tricked the keeper as well as defenders during the short corner and the ball flew into the bottom corner neatly , sealing a much-earned victory for the Josephians .
The following two matches saw SJI encountering strong opposition such as Raffles Institution and Sengkang Secondary School , and the boys faced a more uphill task in competing against these strong teams than before . Despite losing 0-3 and 0- 7 respectively , our team showed great team spirit and determination and displayed the fighting spirit of a true Josephian .
