Fencing
SJI Fencing Club began in 1993 and has been growing from strength to strength as it celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year .
Throughout these memorable years , we have learnt from our failures and celebrated our achievements . More importantly , it is also a testament to the role of the club in nurturing the characters and the interest in fencing of our students . Winning at competitions are viewed as a happy outcome of the students ’ enjoyment in the sports and the desire to achieve sophistication in the fencing techniques .
Competitions This year , the SJI Fencing Club members were given opportunities to hone their skills at various local competitions such as the National Inter-school Championships , Singapore Minime Fencing Championships and Annual Novices Fencing Competition .
Exchange with St Joseph ’ s Convent Other than participating in competitions and championships , SJI Fencing Club hosted the annual fencing sparing exchange with St Joseph ’ s Convent ( SJC ) fencers . Through this programme , SJI and SJC fencers have had the opportunity to interact with fencers beyond their usual grouping . Other than getting to know one another , the fencers spar against each other and discuss different fencing strategies , helping each other to improve .
Looking forward , SJI Fencing Club hopes to continue to develop and strengthen its members ’ confidence and identity through their participation in fencing .
