Dr. Preyra has built a strong reputation
as a superb clinician and physician
leader. His outstanding work ethic,
great energy and passion to improve the
patient care experience have allowed
him to consistently enhance the delivery
of high quality care in every role that
he has taken on, while maintaining
strong advocacy for the advancement
of teaching and research and building
relationships at all levels.
For the past several years Dr. Preyra
has worked at St. Joseph Healthcare
Hamilton as Chief of Emergency
Medicine and as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Much has been accomplished under his
leadership in these two roles including
the introduction of a unique service
delivery model of care in the Emergency
Department (ED), improved performance
metrics in the ED, revitalized processes
in quality and risk management, and
enhanced physician engagement in
interdepartmental collaboration to
provide the highest quality of care to
hospital patients. Dr. Preyra was also part
of the team that recently implemented
DoveTale, a new electronic health record
system for the organization; this work
brought St. Joseph’s from HIMSS Level 2
to HIMSS Level 6.
During Dr. Preyra’s career he has been
acknowledged many times for his work
as an educator, clinician and physician
leader, including the Governor General
of Canada Medal, the William Osler
Award of Excellence in Education, the
Royal College of Physicians of Canada
Residency Program Director of the year
and the Sister Joan O’Sullivan Award.
We are very excited to have Dr. Preyra
join the Joseph Brant Hospital team.
