MO-KAN FRIDAY FUN DRAGS
6-11 p . m . every Friday night . Gates open at 6 p . m ., races start at 7 p . m .
MO-KAN DRAGWAY NEAR ASBURY : Test and tune , fun runs , and open runs . The cost is $ 10 per adults , children ages 12 and under are free .
KIDS FREE FISHING DAY
6:30 a . m . to 8:15 p . m . Saturday , May 18 .
ROARING RIVER STATE PARK NEAR CASSVILLE : Everyone 15 and younger will be able to get tags for free that day . A section of the river will be designated for youth throughout the day . Adults will not be allowed to fish by themselves in this area . Parents and guardians are welcome to help the children as needed , but only one pole between the helper and the child may be used at any time . Volunteers will be present to help . SOLAR ECLIPSE
Monday , April 8
ELEPHANT ROCKS STATE PARK , NEAR BELLEVIEW : This is one of a number of state parks that will be in the path of the total solar eclipse . Access to the park may be limited because of overcrowding and there may be delays and a lack of parking . Other state parks in the path of the total eclipse are : Sam A . Baker , Echo Bluff , Current River , Johnson ' s Shut Ins , Taum Sauk and Grand Gulf .
ART IN THE PARK

GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER NATIONAL MONUMENT NEAR DIAMOND : Learn about George Washington Carver ’ s love for art . The event features local artists at work across park grounds , hands-on demonstrations , and instructional workshops with pastels , natural dyes , pencil and more . FREEMAN JOPLIN MEMORIAL RUN
The RACE will be held Saturday , May 18 . The WALK OF SILENCE honoring the victims of the 2011 tornado will be held at 7 p . m . Friday , May 17 . The race will start at the 70-foot-tall stainless steel memorial sculpture in memory of those who died that is on the grounds of the Harry M . Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex in Joplin . Events this year include the Freeman half-marathon , the Sparklight 10K , the Liberty 5K , and the Sign Designs Kids mile run .
