Blue Jay Update
Athletics
Wrestling
The wrestler team wraps up their regular season on Feb 1st at the Hustisford Invitational. The Blue Jays finished 5-0 in the Southern Trailways to wrap up their 5th straight conference championship. The wrestling team
features four returning state qualifiers lead by Wilder Wichman who has an impressive 32-3 record and has
already broken the single season takedown record for the modern day Blue Jays. Seniors Kyle Kemmerling
(27-7) and Clayton Uselman (25-3) and sophomore Adam Becker (24-5) also look to make a return to the Kohl
Center at the end of February. Several other Blue Jays will end up opening eyes in the month of February. Be
on the lookout for Christian Avalos, Alex David, Hunter Garsky, Bret Sellnow, and Colton Bruley to make runs
at regional and conference championships.

Girls Basketball
The Johnson Creek Girl’s Basketball team is 3-3 in the month of January posting conference wins over Deerfield, Dodgeland, and Hustisford. Entering the final month of the season the girl’s have a record of 5-8 (4-5
Trailways South). During the month of December the girls hosted a food pantry night and received 39 donated items that were added to the school fundraising effort during the holiday season, and in January 8 Bluejay
alumni were recognized during halftime of the Dodgeland game as part of Alumni Appreciation Night. There
are several key dates remaining on the schedule: Autism Awareness Night 2/14 vs. Deerfield, Parent’s Night
2/24 vs. Abundant Life Christian School, and Senior Night 2/27 vs. Hustisford. Keep up to date with girls basketball on Facebook by “liking” Johnson Creek Girls Basketball.
Boys Basketball
The varsity boy’s basketball team spent most of the month on the road, playing 7 consecutive games away from
JCHS. Our most recent game was a 47-46 victory over the Rio Vikings. The Bluejays were able to withstand a
comeback attempt and hold on for the win. Chazz Welch hit the go ahead free throw with 9 seconds left. The
win avenged a 20-point loss to Rio in the conference opener.
We return home on 1/30 to play host to Abundant Life/Madison Country Day.
