Happy February! As we dive into second semester, I wanted to take some time and remind parents how important they are to their child’s education. According to (Dufur, Parcel and Troutman, 2012), numerous studies over time have proven that parental involvement is a more significant factor in a child’s academic performance that the qualities of the school itself. Parent engagement is not only important in their child’s elementary years but also crucial as the child enters middle school/high school age as well. What can parents do? • Continually remind children the importance of education. • Attend school events. • Check homework and consistently monitor grades. Furthermore, here are several opportunities for parents to get involved in our organizations that benefit the Johnson Creek student body and school community: • Johnson Creek Education Foundation: http://www.johnsoncreek.k12. wi.us/jcef/B1-JCEF_Brochure_2008. pdf • JC Parents: Contact Jenny Budig, 699-3481 • JC Athletic Booster Club: Randy Roehl, 248-1286 Looking forward to a great second semester! Cale Vogel Principal • Communicate with teachers about their child’s progress. • Attend parent/teacher conferences with their child present. • Make sure there are open lines of communication between parent and child.
