Global Education and European Teaching Strategies

13h Meeting with the Head of the Spanish language department (Maria Curgalyová). Maria
tells us that students start learning Spanish with Slovak teachers (15 of the 20 hours they
devote to L2 language in the first year) and that lecturers gradually take over most of the L2
hours as years go by. She also informs us about the DELE tests and the fact that some
students lose interest for Spanish as years go by if they decide that they want to continue
their studies in the Czech Republic.
The school gets some 250 applications for the Spanish Section yearly, of which they select
45. This allows GBZA to select students with a very high academic profile and, mostly, a
high socioeconomic profile as well.
We also comment the main differences between the Catalan and Slovak educational
systems. .
