English is taught as FL 3h per week.
Students usually opt to continue their graduate studies in the Czech Republic, although they
can apply for special grants for students of bilingual sections to study in the University of
Granada.
Out of 470 total students, half is in the Spanish section and the other half in the french one.
There’s a Russian section under development in order to expand the school and improve the
funding. They are an examination centre for both DELE and DELF exams and they are a
preparation centre for English qualifications (although students have to take the tests
elsewhere).
Although it is a public highschool, there’s quite a hard selection process. In order to access
the GBZA, there’s a psychological aptitude test (similar to an IQ test where they also tests
abilities). They can select the best student for the school and it is designed and carried out
by external psychologists.
The Head of studies invites us to a cultural act on Friday at 11h to celebrate Spanish and
French cultures, where there will attend local authorities as well as the Spanish ambassador.
She also organises a visit to a private bilingual primary school.

She starts with a warmup activity about the KA2 exchange with Finland. Finn students visited
the school the previous week, and she asks students about their exchange partners. Using
the few Finn words that they have been able to learn, the teacher makes her student compare
them to the languages they know. The majority of the students have a B2 level of English or
higher, they are sufficiently able to carry out the conversation in English with little to none
errors in grammar or vocabulary. Students are able to speak Slovak, Spanish or French and
English with sufficiency and some know Russian and Hungarian. They also claim to
understand Polish. There’s a French exchange student with them. He’s been at the GBZA
for one month and he’s able to communicate in Slovak. The rest of the lecture consists of
exercise correction and phrasal verbs.
