How not to do well during an interview
Be mindful. Nonverbal communication speaks volumes!
Crossed arms and legs
Crossed arms and legs can be considered as physical barriers that suggest to the
panel that you are not open to what they are saying. Even if you are smiling and
engaged in a pleasant conversation, your body language could be telling the
interviewers otherwise!
Fidgeting and Nerves
Be aware of your nerves and what effect this may have on your body when you are
under pressure or stressed and especially when you are holding something in your
hand or doing things. For example, foot tapping, pen clicking, and flapping pieces
of paper in your hand is very distracting and unprofessional. You don’t want to
project this image, or for the panel to think that you are irritating!
Simply, put both feet on the ground, place anything you are holding in your hands
on the table provided or on the floor beside you.
Keep your hands relaxed on your lap and try to leave them there, using them only
to gesture with moderation as you speak.
