Students in physical and health are off to a great start in 2022 ! Classes are getting set into new surroundings and taking advantage of contemporary amenities . Classes have been learning about cardiovascular endurance and the lifelong benefits of physical fitness in our cardio room . It has been exciting to watch the students tracking personal heart rate data before , during , and following bouts of exercise . The concept of target heart rate is a lifelong capability that helps focus the goals and outcomes of each individual ' s training . Students engaged in many activities that stressed the importance of teamwork and effective communication . The emphasis has been on sport-specific skill development concepts such as throwing , catching , stickhandling , defending , aiming , and problem-solving .
Grades 6 and 8 will complete the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment . While these tests can be rigorous for many , they can be an excellent opportunity to learn personal levels of physical fitness . Students can analyze their results and set goals for improvement . Grade 7 students have transitioned to health education and will receive instruction directly from Shape America national student outcomes . Health education is a critical aspect of the development of the whole child . Students will develop the skills necessary to make healthy , informed life decisions through project-based learning . If you have any questions regarding the health and physical education program , don ' t hesitate to get in touch with department coordinator
