The Enfield Public Schools is looking forward to participating in the Youth Vote program this year . From Grade 4 through high school , all students will have the opportunity to participate in Youth Vote activities . The local election curriculum addresses civic rights and responsibilities , election vocabulary , local issues and candidates , state and federal elections , and voter registration .
At no time will school personnel try to influence a student ’ s opinion on a candidate or an issue . The goals of this program are : 1 . To give students a hands-on understanding of the electoral process . 2 . To instill a sense of civic responsibility in our future voters . 3 . To involve families in their children ’ s civics education using reality-based lessons . The social studies classes at JFK will be implementing lessons designed to prepare students to vote in the EPS Youth Vote Election on November 8 th . Lessons focus on the following essential questions :
• 6 th -8 th - What are the roles and responsibilities of citizens in a representative democracy ?
• 6 th - What qualities are necessary for effective leadership in a democracy ?
• 7 th - What are the most important issues in my community ?
• 8 th - How do candidates use advertising in campaigns ?
• 8 th What are the candidates ’ positions on issues important to your community ?
The intended outcome of the curriculum is that children will accompany their family members to the polling places on Election Day so that they may vote in the Youth Vote program . The ballot will be similar in content to the official ballot . Enfield students will use electronic voting technology to cast their votes .
As you have the greatest influence over whether or not your child will vote in the future , opportunities for family involvement have been built into the program . Please join us for a Meet the Candidates Night scheduled for Wednesday , November 2nd from 6:00 – 8:00 p . m . at Enfield High School . Most importantly , there will be a Youth Vote station set up at each polling site in town on Election Day , November 8 , 2022 . All EPS students 4-12 are encouraged to participate and vote in our Youth Vote Election . Please help us make the Youth Vote experience a valuable one for your child .
