The London-based jewellery brand said it is “incredibly proud” of its new collection, which is inspired by the “underwater world and the richness of the sea”. The collection features fairtrade blue rose cut tourmaline alongside luxury baroque pearls, and the pieces are hand built initially from wax using a design that suits the gemstone and then cast into sterling silver. Bea Jareno, founder and creative director, said: “We love what we do and we put the same care and attention to every single piece of jewellery handcrafted at our studio. Emile Chouriet is a Swiss brand descending from a family involved in the watchmaking industry in Geneva since the 17th Century. In 2012, Emile Chouriet set up and opened their own factory based in Geneva and the brand has now developed five collections of watches accessible to the public. The current selection on offer includes the Blue Canvas Challenger Cliff, Héritier à Guichets and The Challenger Deep, a 300 metre / 1000 feet dive watch. D.C.Leake Jewellers has introduced 11 Ladies watches along with 20 Gents watches, available on their online platforms and in store.” 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 EVENTS Apprentice jeweller to represent UK at ‘Olympics of skills’ Goldsmiths’ Company apprentice Sam McMahon employed at Mappin and Webb, has been selected to represent the UK at The WorldSkills Finals in, Kazan, Russia. Winning a spot in fine jewellery making, McMahon joins more than 30 young professionals from engineering, hospitality, professional services, construction and digital and IT to form the UK team at the upcoming ‘Olympics of Skills’. To win the spot on the UK team he competed against George Schembri from B&M Bijoux and Robert Dean from The House of Garrard. The three Goldsmiths’ Company apprentices spent three days in Nottingham demonstrating technical skills in jewellery making. Within a temporary workshop digital and creative zone, the apprentices were set the task to create an Aston Martin badge to a specific design, testing their accuracy, time management and problem-solving skills. McMahon said: “I am so proud to have made the UK team. It has been a long journey of hard work and commitment – from my time on the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Foundation Programme to becoming a Goldsmiths’ Company Apprentice at Mappin and Webb – and I would like to thank everyone that has supported me through the last year and a half; my master, workmates, company, friends and of course the skills training team to get me to the WorldSkills final!I look forward to the challenge ahead.” JEWELLERY FOCUS 7
