MONTH IN REVIEW GO ONLINE www.jewelleryfocus.co.uk START: THE MONTH’S NEWS BEGAN HERE JEWELLERY COLLECTIONS Yossi Harari launches new 31 piece collection Jewellery designer Yossi Harari has launched his latest collection comprising of 31 unique, handcrafted, individual pieces of jewellery using Shefa Yamim’s rare and unique suite of gemstones found in the Kishon Mid- Reach area. Harari is a world-renowned jewellery designer and three-time winner of the Couture Design Award. Harari has been in the jewellery business for nearly 30 years having opened his workshop in Istanbul in 1990. His brand was launched in the United States in 2000 and has grown to have a strong retail presence. His jewellery features in over 40 stores worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Harvey Nichols London. The handmade jewellery is created from 24 Karat gold, ‘gilver’ -Harari’s own trademarked metal alloy that combines oxidized silver and 24 Karat gold - and Shefa Yamim’s precious gemstones. The gemstones used include the Carmel Sapphire, which is formed of the rare mineral Carmeltazite, a newly discovered mineral internationally recognised by the International Mineralogical Association. The collection, titled ‘Heaven on Earth’, includes 11 necklaces, 10 rings, four pendants, four pairs of earrings and two bracelets.The prices for each piece of jewellery in this collection will range from $1,000 to $85,000. The Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council (GCDC) presented to silversmith Grant Macdonald with its ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and said his “contribution and continuing legacy to the industry is significant and unquestionable”. Macdonald was presented with the LAA silver medal by prime warden Michael Prideaux and Tom Fattorini, sponsor of the award. Additionally, Tony Bedford received the Jacques Cartier Memorial Award for his silver ‘Chased Head’ design, inspired by Rodin’s Burghers of Calais. Bedford also won the award in 1979. GCDC said the annual competition “rewards excellence” in technical skills and creative design in precious metals and related materials, and added that the event actively encourages established craftspersons and designers in the industry, as well as apprentices and students to enter their work. GCDC chairman, Andrew Putland, said: “Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners, who have again impressed the Council and our judges, with fine examples of craft and design skills across many specialist sections. “Our expert industry judges frequently commented on the exceptionally high standard of work this year, and we are pleased with the number of entries that met Council’s benchmark for Gold Awards in 2019.” He added: “The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards mark a positive start to the year for our junior and senior entrants, and the Council was pleased to celebrate and enjoy their success on Monday night through these great Awards.” Luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has announced the opening of its first stand alone boutique in Ireland in summer 2019, located at Queen’s Arcade in Belfast in partnership with Lunn’s Jewellers. The boutique will feature an extensive range of TAG Heuer novelties including the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01, the iconic Monaco and other special editions. The decoration of the boutique, based on the triangle of the TAG Heuer shield, will be applied inside the displays and interiors in shades of pale and dark grey and perforated materials that reference the watch mechanisms. This includes touches of red to “evoke the brand’s attachment to the world of motor racing”.
