ASSAM SOCIETY OF BANGALORE From the President’ s desk, Assam Society of Bangalore-

I take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy Bohag Bihu in advance, a very happy Assamese new year and look forward to celebrating the great occasion of 15 th Bihu Celebration in Bangalore with ASOB.
Assam Society of Bangalore( ASOB) have come a very long way from our inception way back in 1982. ASOB is a nonpolitical, non-governmental, socio cultural organization with the aim of bringing together the people of Assam and the Northeast of India in Bangalore with an effort to showcase the rich culture and heritage of Assamese & Northeast people and in the process building the co-ordination between the people of Karnataka, Assam and Northeast in general, irrespective of cast, creed and customs. The Assam Society of Bangalore shall always strive and endeavor to achieve an atmosphere of creating‘ a home away from home’ amongst the inhabitants of Assam and Northeast in Bangalore.
The objective of celebrating the Grand Bohagi Adaroni is to raise funds for building a dedicated Assam Society Club House in a time span of 5-6years in Bangalore. This Club House shall also function as a placement cell for the people( read students) of Assam who are pursuing higher and professional education in Bangalore by leveraging the very enterprising Assamese Community. The Society Club House will also be able to help and support people of Assam coming into Bangalore seeking Healthcare services by providing all necessary information.
In the past and even now, we have done and taken up the cause of many social activities like blood donation camps, placement camps, helping orphanages, recent North East issues etc. Apart from these social responsibilities, ASOB has also created many opportunities and platforms for emerging talents from Assam and Northeast to showcase themselves like inter college cricket tournament and fresher’ s meet from new students of Northeast of India.
ASOB also organized a homage and a tribute function in memory of the late music maestro, Dr Bhupen Hazarika in first half of 2012. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all my core society members, general members, sponsors, donors and well wishers of Assam Society of Bangalore without whose effort and co-operation this 15 th Bihu couldn’ t have been possible. I thank all of you on behalf of Assam Society of Bangalore for supporting us. I also take this opportunity to appeal to all to come forward, extend your support and lend a helping hand towards ASOB and its continuing efforts towards achieving its varied objectives.
