“ Oi hati xherualu lihiri bonote, o ghura xherualu ronot, pai xherualu xhorogor mukuta o, oi sutalor dubori bonot …..” Bihu has been a very integral part of every Assamese people. Every Assamese person enjoy and love celebrating it. My journey with bihu have been a very memorable one. My“ guru” was my grandfather who taught me what is“ bihu”? What is Assamese culture actually? He taught me how to dance, how to sing“ bihu naam” and a lot … He used to make” pepa”,” gogona” which we have used. He was a great“ dhulia” who has a good name in Assam. He was inspired from his elder brother“ Leela Gogoi” who was an author, and former president of“ Assam Sahitya Sabha”. He was the author of many books such as“ Bihu geet bonghuxha”,“ Noi boi jai”,“ bikudor boruah biya”.“ Nila khamor Sithi” and many more. Not only these he was also involved in ahom history, comic, and very much interested in writing songs songs. I have lost both these people at a very early age of my life. Still lot of things were left to be acquired from them. My parents are also a great support who helped me in learning my culture, tradition, etc. And now in Bangalore
“ Assam Society of Bangalore” has given me a chance to get related with the Assamese culture, Bihu though staying a thousands of kilometes away from Assam. Society has always been a support for enliving the culture. It has given me a lot of Assamese friends and itself gives me a feeling of“ family”. Assam society is actually a family in Bangalore which help every A. ssamese in every possible aspect. At first when I stepped in Bangalore I felt as if I m so lonely and use to search people nearby if I could find any Assamese. Then after some days I got a call from a member of Assam society who invited me for the freshers party. I thought that its just a party and went there but as soon as I entered the hall I had a great feeling as people around me were talking in assamese. That was an awesome day which I had achieved just because of the society. Nowadays some people feel ashamed to introduce themselves as an assamese, but I don’ t know why? They should feel proud a be a part of this wide culture and the beautiful Assam. But still there are some people who gets stick to their culture even though staying away from their natives. Bihu is now recognized in the national level but I feel it can be recognized and can be given respect in the international level if every assamese supports and put the effort.“ PROUD TO BE ANASSAMESE”“ JOI AAI AXOM”-------------------
