On many occasions, I play 18 holes in the morning and 5 sets of tennis in the afternoon. It is invigorating and I love it. Also, when possible, I walk about 8 miles along the coast and watch the dolphins and people swimming and playing in the crystal clear ocean.
My real passion though is photography and there are so many places in Perth to take photos and I find myself going to Fremantle quite often to enjoy its restaurants as well as take photos. This historically preserved port town is filled with beautiful buildings, boats, waterways, restaurants and people.
Western Australia is quite diverse and very big roughly the size of 1 / 4 of the USA. One year we drove 12 hours north to a coastal town Coral Bay which is similar to the Great Barrier Reef, that is located on the Eastern Coast of Australia in Queensland. The difference with Coral Bay is that it is right off the shore and you do not need to take a boat many miles out to see it. At Coral Bay, we would walk directly from our 3.5 star hotel up the beach a mile or so with our snorkeling gear and wetsuits. We then started snorkeling to witness the beautiful coral, abundant tropical fish, giant clams and more as the current gently took us back to the town site harbor. It was breathtaking. Walking further up the beach revealed small coves where we discovered turtles and small reef sharks and we sat and watched these for quite awhile. Coral Bay is where the large and majestic whale sharks migrate through and home to giant manta rays. The whale sharks were not migrating when we visited but when they are around tourists are allowed to swim near them, however it is necessary to go deep into the ocean in a boat and then a dingy to get close up. Many of our friends have experienced this but we have not. Manta rays do live around Coral Bay but again it is necessary to take a boat out to see them and we did not do this.
