Mimi and I had booked a cruise on a schooner to view the famous and stunning Napali coast the next morning. After an amazing buffet breakfast we drove to a small cove to get onto the boat. We met the captain and he took us out to his boat on a dingy.
After only a few minutes on the schooner, we noticed a Coast Guard boat racing over to us and they had their gun pointed to us and the crew were all standing with their guns pointed at us. They announced through a loud speaker that they are boarding us. They came aboard and told us that this was a safety check. They had asked for our identification and we gave it to them quickly and quietly. There was another couple with us also on their honeymoon and they were as frightened as we were. The reality was that the Coast Guard were looking for drugs as the area we were in was a high traffic area for marijuana. I
Photo courtesy Google had my camera in a hard case next to me and I had a joint in there. I was a bit nervous but they never opened the case. They left soon after arriving but we were all stunned including the captain. We cast off and went sailing and we were soon looking at the site where they filmed the South Pacific and King Kong. But the boat was now going over 4 and 5 foot waves and Mimi and I thought that we should not have eaten as much at the buffet. We both lost it big time and threw up over the rear of the boat but we kept hearing the captain and the other couple commenting about the beautiful scenery and the dolphins that were swimming alongside of us. Essentially we saw nothing and we were very sick. It was awful and it lasted for four very long hours. Not a good start to our marriage! We managed to get back to the resort and go snorkeling and we enjoyed the rest of our stay on the island.
Mimi and I returned to New Jersey and organized a dinner party for our family and friends that were unable to share our experience in Hawaii. We went to our favorite Chinese restaurant called Szechuan Palace, an upscale eatery, with many spicy dishes that was very near the United Nations around 44th street.
