on a downhill par 4 and reached the green on one they freaked out a bit and in reality so did I. I was putting for an eagle! We spent about a week exploring some of South Carolina’ s back woods, restaurants and movie theaters and had a great time visiting Marcelle and Mike.
We then flew to San Francisco and Linda and Pete joined us there. We wandered around Fisherman’ s Wharf and did all the tourist stuff for a couple of days before driving down to Monterey together. We caught up with Meghann in San Francisco as well as she was there for some business.
Clubhouse, Peeble Beach Golf Club
Pete let me drive along the famous 17 mile Drive which was a bit difficult considering that I hadn’ t driven on the right side of the road for many many years. Pete got a bit excited but we survived. I then pulled into the famous Pebble Beach Golf Club parking. It was quite an experience to park between a Rolls Royce and a mercedes, walk past the 15 foot high outdoor Rolex clock, browse through three golf shops, look at the real estate listings in the window that revealed the cheapest estate was around $ 12 million and go into the resort clubhouse to take some photos of us. We then entered the clubhouse where people pay for the green fees and saw the most opulent leather couches and fireplaces. We calculated that a round of golf for the three of us would have been more than $ 3,000! So we moved on and drove into a small but very nice little town called Carmel. Mimi and I had been there more than 25 years previously when we drove up from Los Angeles together. We then had the most sumptuous grilled swordfish steak in a unique little cafe. We were able to find the exact cafe that we ate at so long ago after walking around a bit. We had another meal there and we got so excited about this. Next, we headed to Monterey and Pete had taken a hand held GPS to help navigate. After passing a road the device would blurt out, recalculating, recalculating. It did this for each turn that we were to take. We started laughing as this device was driving us crazy. After a few days of this, we discovered that it was set for walking and not driving so it kept missing our turns! Despite this, we found that our hotel was right on the main drag and although the rooms were nice and we were right on the ocean, they were very noisy. Pete was pedantic about locating the best restaurants to visit by doing quite a bit of online research and his efforts paid off big time as he was able to navigate to these incredible and unique eateries.
Linda and Pete Seidner
One morning Linda knocked on our hotel door to tell us that they had just returned from the laundry down the road and she got a bit confused. She had put the laundry and soap into the dryer and went back a half hour later to realize what she had did. We were crying with laughter for hours afterwards.
We drove Linda and Pete to the local airport and they took a small plane to Los Angeles so they could spend some time with Meghann. Mimi and I were on our own now. A couple of days later, we drove back to San Francisco and it was a bit scary driving on the highways but I did it. Mimi navigated perfectly into the city and then directly to our hotel in Fisherman’ s Wharf. We then drove over the Golden Gate bridge to Marin County and I found a favorite cafe in Sausalito that I have been taken to many times by my friend Eddie Pacio. Fred’ s had the best breakfasts and burgers and it was so crowded that you had to sit with others. Here is where you could be sitting next to Carlos Santana! We then drove through Mill Valley which is another very nice suburb.
