a buzzer-beating basket to give Jeff a 55-53 win at Columbus East.
After that came a nine-point win at Bedford North Lawrence and a 17-point victory at Mishawaka Marian before the Devils, finally, faced off against archrival New Albany.
Thirty-three days after their originally-scheduled matchup was postponed by Mother Nature, the Red Devils and Bulldogs met on a Wednesday night in Johnson Arena. Cooper celebrated his 18th birthday with 29 points while Boyd provided a boost off the bench in 10th-ranked Jeff’ s 78-59 win over No. 7 New Albany.
“ We wanted to make a statement tonight for March,” Cooper said afterward.“ I’ m sure we’ ll see them in sectional. It was great playing in front of this big crowd and beating our biggest rival on our home court.”
Three days later, the Red Devils held off hot-shooting Jennings County for a 72-69 win to clinch the outright Hoosier Hills Conference title.
Five days after that, Jeffersonville blitzed 3A No. 1 Brownstown Central 61-43 to end the Braves’ 37-game win streak. It wouldn’ t be the last one the Red Devils would snap.
The next night, Jeff routed Evansville Reitz by 27 before closing out the regular season a week later with a 62-53 victory at Castle.
The Red Devils started the postseason by slamming Scottsburg 82-49 in the first round of the Seymour Sectional. They followed that up by bombing BNL by 30 in the semifinals to earn a second game against New Albany. The Bulldogs led by three at the end of the first, but the rest of the sectional final belonged to Jeffersonville. Singleton scored 28 in his team’ s 62-47 triumph.
“ It’ s priceless for the seniors and the players,” Wilkerson said afterward.“ I would tell you when I took this job we knew the expectations were high, so having a group of guys who are able to meet the expectations is important.”
The following Saturday, the Red Devils eviscerated Evansville Harrison 65-40 in the Southridge Regional at Huntingburg
