Berklee College of Music Summer Program Scholarship Student
Through a partnership with Berklee City Music , JAS is able to provide scholarships to deserving students for the Berklee College of Music 5-Week Summer Program . Berklee covers tuition costs for up to two students who submitted auditions and were accepted by the prestigious program , while JAS covers all transportation , lodging and other expenses .
This intensive program attracts students from over 70 different countries to study together in Boston . It ’ s the “ opportunity of a lifetime ,” as JAS has heard from each of the six students that have attended over the last three years . In 2017 Roaring Fork High School student Liam was one of the fortunate musicians to be chosen . He writes about his experience here :
I feel incredibly fortunate and thankful that I got to experience the 5-week Berklee College of Music program through a scholarship from Berklee and JAS . The 5-Week program was the best experience I have ever had with music . I got to take amazing classes that ranged from theory and improvisation , to percussion and songwriting , a weekly private lesson and classes on styles of your choice , which in my case was funk and fusion . Each one of the classes was led by a passionate and experienced college professor who was excited to give you all the information that you could handle .
I interacted with amazingly talented musicians from all over the world . I played with people from New Zealand , Puerto Rico , Germany , Switzerland , Japan , and many other countries . Every week we had well known guests from around the music industry come to perform and talk to us about their experiences in getting to where they were .
In addition to classes you are placed in at least two ensembles , and they all give a final performance at the end of the program . We performed in front of over 1,500 in Berklee ’ s performance center . That experience was so much fun , I couldn ’ t believe it was happening .
