Executive Commentary
new opportunities inevitably emerge . As an interconnected ports community , we need to be prepared to act on them .
To navigate today ’ s uncertain environment , address challenges and seize opportunities , the Port of Halifax is tapping four areas of universal port interest : partnerships , data initiatives best practices and sustainable decision-making .
Data investment is crucial . Data informs decision-making and helps track key metrics customers demand such as container dwell time . We ’ ve seen important investments in data through National Trade Corridor Funding in Canada to support the steady and fluid movement of cargo through Halifax and other ports .
By being open to learning from each other , we can adopt best practices that make sense for the situations and conditions at our respective ports . In the Port Innovators Network ( PIN ), an international forum of ports from three continents , ports come together
to regularly exchange perspectives and experiences .
Across all these activities , sustainability provides the foundation . Through defined strategies and action plans , ports can better explain our responsible approaches to business , our instrumental role in local and national economies , and our deep contributions to communities where we operate .
