Background / about us : Founded in 1958 , Tomaquag focuses on preserving and sharing life ways of Southern New England Indigenous peoples and creating opportunity for Indigenous empowerment through advocacy and community partnerships .
Brag Lines : A 2016 winner of the National IMLS Museum and Library Service Award , It is Rhode Island only Indigenous culture and history museum providing public opportunities for education , research , mentorship , and employment .
Pay It Forward : With limited funding , Tomaquag relies on the support of its patrons , volunteers , and private donations to increase accessibility , provide educational programming , preserve and share cultural knowledge and create employment opportunities .

Mission Statement :
The North Kingstown Blessings in a Backpack program mobilizes the community to provide food on the weekends for elementary , middle and high school students who might otherwise go hungry .
Background : The NK Blessings In A Backpack program was started in 2012 . A bag of food is discreetly sent home each Friday throughout the school year at a cost of $ 130 per student .
