Who knew you could get legitimate Neapolitan pizza in South County ? The owners of Pasquale ’ s saw the potential , clearly . Just one step into the charming pizzeria ( even if just picking up takeout ), and you ’ ll feel the heat blazing from the wood-fired pizza oven in the center of the joint . Then you ’ ll see the framed Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana certificate ( meaning their native Neapolitan pizza maker , Pasquale Illiano , is a trained AVPN pizzaiolo ) and you ’ ll realize that this hidden gem was well worth the drive . In case you are unfamiliar , Neapolitan pizza boasts a blistered , slightly puffy crust and a thin , crisp bottom . Toppings range from the standard mozzarella , basil leaf and San Marzano tomatoes of a simple Margherita pizza , to options smothered in broccoli rabe or milky fior di latte . There ’ s also New York-style pizza for those with less-adventurous palates ( but don ’ t worry , it ’ s equally yummy ) and a bevy of other Italian delicacies , like the risotto alla pescatore .
