ALFRED WHITTIER WHEELCHAIR CURLING On Sunday, the Lennoxville Curling Rink came alive with laughter and friendly fun as the second annual Alfred Whittier Wheelchair Curling Challenge for the cup took place starting at 10 a. m. with the choosing of the teams. It was then was time to hit the ice. Wheelchair curlers from many clubs were mixed in with the Lennoxville team.
Alfred Whittier started this wheelchair curling program a few years ago, and over the years it has grown into a big part of the Lennoxville Curling Club, with Alfred taking his team to the Canadian Finals out in Western Canada. Recently Alfred has become not only their trainer, but also a certified Wheelchair Curling coach.
At 4 p. m., the medals were handed out to the winners. The Lennoxville Special Olympics Curling team also took part in this day of curling right alongside their friends. While watching the curling, we spoke with Camille Marchand from the Challenge Vernal( Winter Challenge). This is a group that helps support athletes with disabilities and she was there to support them. She was very proud to be involved with this talented group. This young lady certainly took good care of the curlers by taking both cold and hot drinks out to them during the play.
At the end of the day, another Alfred Whittier Wheelchair Curling Cup Challenge came to an end, with all heading home a bit tired but with a big smile.
