What is art ?

a ) Art : an activity that is done to create something beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings . b ) The arts : painting , sculpture , music , theater , literature etc ., considered
MCLAIN as a group of activities done
by people with skill and imagination .
2024 will mark the 40th year the Charbonneau Arts Association ( CAA ) will bring art to Charbonneau residents and funding to local school art teachers and students . Two years ago , the CAA Board
MCLAIN expanded its scope from solely visual arts to include the performing arts , starting with music . Several new events brought world-class arts to Charbonneau , which have been well attended and appreciated by Charbonneau residents and the surrounding communities :
The annual jazz festival was launched in 2022 and repeated again in 2023 .
The music stage series of concerts was also launched in 2022 .
The award-winning Canby jazz band performed a concert at Charbonneau in 2022 .
The bronze sculpture of Sacajawea and baby Jean Baptiste was installed in the Village circle as a permanent display in 2023 .
The 2023 Festival of the Arts in September showcased world-class artists , artisans and musicians .
The expanded definition of the arts has led the CAA board and its 100 volunteers to be busier than ever . The new initiatives and worldclass quality have also led to extra grant support for Charbonneau arts activities . The most recent will be $ 3,500 from Wilsonville Arts , Culture & Heritage Commission ( supported by the city of Wilsonville ) to enhance our marketing efforts for the Arts Festival and Jazz Festival in 2024 . Also , the generous donors and the net proceeds from the added events have more than doubled the funds available to school programs . The art teachers reported that the most recent grants
will be used for some amazing projects .
At Canby High : Replace unrepairable throwing wheel plus freight costs , $ 1,800 . Art field trip transportation costs , $ 1,500 . Photography supplies , $ 1,000 . Painting supplies , $ 500 . Ceramics clay , $ 500 . Sculpture replacement tools , $ 300 . Spring Art Show display materials , $ 300 . Total , $ 6,000 .
At Wilsonville High : To allow students to do large-scale paintings , 40 canvases in large sizes at $ 50 ; total =$ 2,000 . Printmaking supplies like brayers , burnishers , ink , blades , printing blocks , etc . We were gifted a small printing press and would like to integrate printmaking into our program . This will get us started . Thirty brayers at $ 14.87 =$ 446.10 ; thirty burnishers at $ 13.65 =$ 409.50 . Twentyfive colors of ink at $ 11.62 =$ 290.50 . Six boxes of 12 blades at $ 17.63 =$ 105.78 . Sixty printing blocks at $ 9.60 =$ 576 . Approximate total =$ 1,800 . Our 20 display panels are 25 years old . Many of them are broken and damaged . They are also a nightmare to store as they are big and bulky . We are hosting the Northwest Oregon Conference / Competition this year and want to have replacement panels by April for that event . We would like to use $ 2,200 towards the purchase , at $ 474 each , which amounts to around $ 5,600 . If we were granted $ 2,200 then the school would pay the difference . Teacher Angennette Escobar says , “ Thank you for this amazing opportunity !”
For the coming year 2024 , please mark your calendars for an exciting year for the arts at Charbonneau . Feb . 11 – Bottleneck Blues Band April 21 – Country Western Band
