Anyone up for winter golf and lunch ?
I don ’ t know about you , but I miss playing golf ! A few Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association members set an off-season goal of playing a round of golf once a week and hitting balls on the range
BOOK an additional day during the
week . After all we have to keep our skills sharp and practice some new skills we learned after attending the Saturday clinics hosted by the Charbonneau golf pros . We managed to achieve this goal during October and November , but , after Thanksgiving , the holiday took over and even on that rare , nice day , it was hard to find four hours to play 18 holes or even one hour to hit balls on the range . Hopefully in January we will get back on track to realizing our goal ! If you are interested in playing a little winter golf , gather your long underwear , warm clothes and hand-warmers and join us . Whether or not winter golf is in your wheelhouse , there is another way to stay connected with our golfing community , get to know other CWGA members or meet some of our new members . Our Membership Committee is hosting monthly winter luncheons , and the first gathering , “ Cold Hands , Warm Hearts , Good Books ,” is at 11:30 a . m . Jan . 18 in the Charbonneau Activity Center . A gourmet lunch served by The Market Café of hearty soup , a delicious charcuterie board , a decadent brownie and , for those of us that want to indulge , hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps , formally called a “ Snowshoe .” After lunch , share a book that you think others would enjoy that took you on a journey , warmed your heart and fed your mind . I can ’ t think of a better way to truly get to know members of this awesome club than to indulge in good food to warm our bodies , take comfort in the spirit of companionship to warm our hearts , and share a good book to warm our minds !
To attend the luncheon on Jan . 18 , look for the CWGA notebook , which will be on the counter in the clubhouse on Dec . 28 . Sign up by noon on Jan . 11 and place your $ 25 check for the lunch in the drawer . On the day of the lunch bring your book idea and $ 5 for a snowshoe drink . We are all looking forward to this gathering , but , if for some reason you cannot make it , mark your calendar for Feb . 8 and March 7 so you do not miss the next two luncheons . We hope to see you this month at the luncheon , on the golf course or on the range !

� Know the shut-off locations for your electricity , natural gas and water .
� During a power outage , turn off major appliances to reduce power demands when electricity is restored .
� Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the home and test them regularly .
Outdoor safety
� Minimize outdoor activities whenever possible . If you must venture outdoors , dress appropriately for the weather conditions you may encounter and avoid getting wet to prevent hypothermia .
� Don ’ t overestimate how far you can walk on extremely cold , rainy or snowy days .
� Use extreme caution when stepping outside in icy conditions , particularly in the morning when it ’ s coldest and the ice hasn ’ t had a chance to melt .
� Insulate exposed water pipes with fiberglass or foam to protect them from freezing .
� Report power outages to your electric company and never touch a downed power line !
� If you have pets or livestock that must be outside , provide a sheltered area and access to non-frozen drinking water .
Safety behind the wheel
� Avoid traveling when the weather service issues storm advisories .
� If you must drive , drive much slower than you would in ideal weather conditions .
� Have your car inspected to ensure it ’ s in proper running condition . A breakdown during extreme weather can put you and your passengers in danger .
� Replace worn tires , belts , leaking radiator hoses and burned-out headlights and taillights .
� Ensure your radiator has appropriate antifreeze for the conditions you will encounter .
� Have an emergency kit in your car equipped with blankets , flashlights , snacks , tools , a shovel and kitty litter or sand for traction in case of an unexpected delay or emergency .
� Keep your gas tank more than half full . Should a power outage occur , you may have difficulty finding a service station that can fill your tank .
� If you plan to travel in the mountains , carry the appropriate chains or traction devices required by law .
