Boys & Girls Aid
By MARGIE WIESENTHAL
Every child is important and deserves a good home
When Chris was 5 years old , she was taken from her parents by the state because one of the neighbors saw
WIESENTHAL that she was being abused by her father .
She was placed in a foster home . After that her parents moved to Montana .
Chris started to act out what had happened to her by hitting , throwing things and screaming . This foster home sent her away . After that she spent time in five more foster homes . Each of them couldn ’ t handle her .
One day a teacher referred her to Boys & Girls Aid where she was given counseling for what she had experienced . After a couple of months she was placed by Boys & Girls Aid into a foster home where her foster parents had also been counseled . They knew exactly what she needed and why she behaved so badly . She stayed with them , settled down , went to school and did well .
At age 19 she became part of The Transitional Living Program of Boys & Girls Aid . This is a program for teens who have aged out of the foster care system .
She lived in her own apartment with another girl . They did their own cooking and laundry , had jobs and were saving money for when they were to become completely independent .
One night in December the Transitional Living Program ( TLP ) had a Christmas party for all the young people it served . There were about 30 young men and women at the party . Each of

them was fed a great buffet with soup , soda , salad , pasta , cookies and candy .
After the meal they each received a sports bag full of things like soccer balls , sweatshirts , socks , toys and cookies in a box . It was a wonderful party . Chris was delighted with all of it and ate a lot of candy .
Dianne McMichael buys all the things needed for these bags . Now , of course , this is not inexpensive . The money for it comes from Remax and a big grant from the Rotary Club of Wilsonville .
