AAP leader Prashant Bhushan's
reported call for a referendum on
army deployment in Kashmir created a storm on Monday, with Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal quickly distancing his party from the purported statement.

don't "need to conduct a referendum (on) every tricky situation."
SOG officer killed in Sopore
attack
POONCH, Jan 3: Agitated over
the death of a patient in District
Hospital (DH) Poonch, her relatives
and local villagers ransacked furniture, glass panes and building of
the hospital. They also allegedly
manhandled with doctors and other
paramedical staff deployed there in
which three doctors and two paramedics were injured.
SRINAGAR, Jan 7: An assistant
sub-inspector of Special Operations
Group (SOG) was killed and two
policemen injured in a militant
attack at Sopore in north Kashmir.
Reports said that SOG party
came under militant attack immediately after it raided a hideout at
Chhankhan locality of Sopore.

New train from Jammu Kota launched
ISLAMABAD, Jan 4 (Agencies):
Any breakthrough on outstanding
issues between India and Pakistan,
including Kashmir and Siachen,
can be expected only after the
Indian elections, Prime Minister's
Advisor on National Security and
Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said
today.
Back channel talks are being
held on issues like Kashmir‚ Sir
Creek and Siachen as it is
Pakistan's "utmost endeavour" to
improve relations with India, Aziz
told state-run Radio Pakistan.
NEW DELHI, Jan
7(Agencies):Railways will launch a
new train service between Jammu
and Kota, Rajasthan, on Jan 11.
The Kota-Jammu weekly express
train will depart from Kota at 3 P.M.
From January 11 on every
Saturday to reach Jammu at 1.10
p.M. The next day. In the return
direction, the Jammu-Kota weekly
express will start from Jammu station at 11.45 p.M. From January 12
on every Sunday to reach Kota at
10.35 p.M. The next day, according
to Northern Railway.
Crores disbursed under VSA
scheme in violation of
guidelines
JAMMU, Jan 7: The much hyped
Voluntary Service Allowance (VSA)
scheme launched by Omar
Abdullah government in the year
2010 for providing fixed monthly
allowance in lieu of some services
to the educated unemployed youth
of the state is facing both political
and bureaucratic apathy as the
amount worth crores was disbursed
without following the guidelines to
take certain services from the beneficiar ies in lieu of allowance. Not
only this, the disbursal was made
without maintaining the proper
record of the beneficiaries.
Youth killed, 16 injured as
minibus mishap
JAMMU Jan 8: One passenger
was killed and sixteen other including 5 women were injured in an
accident on the outskirts of Jammu
city today.
Police said that a matador (407)
bearing registration number
JK02AX-7024 on its way to Nagrota
skidded off the road and plunged
into a gorge near Pir Baba Manda,
this afternoon. The driver of the
vehicle failed to negotiate a curve
due to over speeding and the vehicle plunged into a gorge.
Seventeen persons on board the
vehicle were injured and they were
shifted to Government Medical
College (GMC) hospital for treatment.
Seven children reportedly
died due to Pneumonia in
Udhampur
The ongoing cold wave has taken
a heavy toll on the minor children of
Pancheri in Udhampur district with
as many as seven alleged
Pneumonia deaths have been
reported in the area.

e-stamping: Rather
JAMMU, Jan 8: J&K government
has switched over to e-Stamping.
The agreement in this connection
was signed this evening between
the Commissioner Stamps J&K,
Kifayat Rizvi and Vivek Khurana
(authorized signatory), Regional
Manager of Stock Holding
Corporation of India Limited
(SHCIL) in presence of the Minister
for Finance and Ladakh Affairs
Abdul Rahim Rather.

before panel on Jan 22
JAMMU, Jan 9: The Legislative
Council Privilege Committee
Thursday issued fresh summons
through Director General of
Haryana Police to the former Army
Chief Gen (retired) V K Singh seeking his presence on January 22 for
clarification to his allegations about
pay offs to ministers in J&K in a television interview last year.
The DGP Haryana has been
asked to serve the summons to Gen
V K Singh, who at present lives in
Gurgaon, Haryana, asking him to
appear before the privileges committee on January 22, 2014 at 2.30
PM.

SC directs centre to file
status report
NEW DELHI, Jan 10: Supreme
Court (SC) today directed Union of
India (UOI) to file status report on
Pakistan Administered Kashmir
(PAK) prisoners in Jammu and
Kashmir and other jails in the country.
A division bench of the Supreme
Court comprising Justice RM Lodha
and Shiva Kirti Singh directed P P
Malhotra, Additional Solicitor
General for the Union of India to file
the status report on the trial of PAK
prisoners in J&K and other Indian
jails.
Police solves 2 blind murder
cases
JAMMU, Jan 12: Jammu Police
Sunday claimed to have solved two
separate blind murder cases
occurred earlier this month in
Akhnoor and Gangyal area in
Jammu district.
In the first case, which occurred
on January 5, 2014, a young
woman, namely, Praveena Bibi wife
of Salim Mohammed resident of
Kandi, Akhnoor was murdered near
her parental home at Kotli Tanda,
Akhnoor. The young woman had
been staying at her parental home
for the past one and half years. Her
body was recovered from the bushes near her parental home.
