Introducing this year ’ s grand marshal

The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce has named Terry Middlekauff as the grand marshal for the 2023 James J . Hill Days festival . He will lead this year ’ s parade , which is set for 3 p . m . Sunday , Sept . 10 , on Lake Street .
Middlekauff serves as stationmaster on the board of directors for the Wayzata Historical Society . As part of that role , Middlekauff helps run the museum at Wayzata ’ s Great Northern Railway Depot , 402 Lake St . E .
Built in 1906 , the depot remained in service until 1971 . The building was donated to the city the following year and in 1981 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places . Today , the depot remains open to the public as a museum operated by the historical society . For more information , visit wayzatahistoricalsociety . org / visit / depot .

Q : How long have you lived in the Lake Minnetonka area ?
I lived in Minnetonka for about 20 years , and then I moved to Wayzata and then to Spring Park where I live today .

Q : When did you start your role as the stationmaster for the Wayzata Historical Society ?
It was about 23 years ago . Another guy and I thought it would be a good idea to have the depot open as a museum . And his name was John Liebens ; he was also a resident of Wayzata . We kind of petitioned the Wayzata Historical Society , which occupied the depot and held their board meetings there
