Dining Room
August 2017
O
ur interpretation of the Dining Room table setting has
shifted from showing reproductions of the Madisons’
French porcelain to showing their everyday wares. From extensive
archaeological evidence, we know that the Madisons’ primary
dinner service was blue and white English transferware in the
Bamboo & Peony pattern made by the Davenport company in
Staffordshire. We have acquired nearly enough pieces for a full
three-course meal, allowing us to show period serving practices. We
installed a dessert course on the table so we could remove the cloth
and showcase our newly acquired Madison-family table.
